Addiction & Recovery Counseling

Completing detox or residential treatment is an important first step, but recovery doesn't end when treatment does. The weeks, months, and years that follow often present new challenges as you begin applying what you've learned to everyday life.

With more than three decades of experience working in addiction treatment and recovery, I understand that maintaining sobriety involves much more than simply avoiding alcohol or drugs. Lasting recovery requires learning to recognize patterns, manage stress, strengthen coping skills, and build a life that supports long-term change. My role is to help you navigate that process with practical guidance, accountability, and support.

Why treatment isn't always enough

Many people wonder why they continue to struggle after completing treatment. The answer is often more understandable than they realize.

During early recovery, the brain is still healing from the effects of substance use. While you may have participated in group therapy, counseling, and psychoeducational programs, you may not have been in the best position to absorb or retain everything you were learning. As life becomes more complex after treatment, it's common to realize there are still questions to answer and new challenges to navigate.

Recovery is an ongoing process. Continuing therapy provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding of addiction, strengthen relapse prevention skills, and apply what you've learned in ways that fit your daily life.

My Approach

Every person's relationship with alcohol or drugs is different. Rather than focusing only on stopping the behavior, I work to understand the role substances have played in your life and the factors that contributed to the development of addiction. Together, we'll explore the progression of your substance use, identify patterns that increase vulnerability, and develop practical strategies for maintaining recovery.

Building a strong therapeutic relationship is always the foundation of my work. My style is proactive, approachable, and at times straightforward. Clients often appreciate my objectivity, authenticity, and willingness to offer thoughtful feedback based on decades of clinical experience. Therapy is a collaborative process where we'll work together to identify underlying issues, strengthen resilience, and support meaningful, lasting change.

My approach is informed by the CENAPS® Model of Relapse Prevention developed by Terence T. Gorski, M.A., and the research of G. Alan Marlatt, Ph.D., while remaining individualized to meet your unique needs and recovery goals.
